Spend a day with the Manggis community. Participate in some of the outstanding community-led activities, enjoy a great meal and indulge in some downtime by our pool with calming views of forested mountains and the far-off, blue ocean. 


Kaura Bali is a retreat-style property, grounded in a community that to date has had very few visitors. Discova has worked with the community members to create the following experiences, which are all hosted by community guides and instructors who have completed a vocational training program with us. 

  • Cooking classes with the members of the Manggis Women's Association
  • A wellness program & spa treatment
  • E-bike riding past volcano views to the beach
  • Hiking through lush forests and far-flung villages to reach the towering Jangasatru Waterfall
  • For the kids, a natural dye workshop and a nature adventure
Come as a group or a family. Everyone can choose an activity to their liking and make new friends. Then, meet up back at the Kaura pool in the afternoon where our skilled barista & mixologist will ensure that you have what you need.

07:00 - Pickups from Legian

09:00-09:00 - Welcome to Kaura
Our team will be eager to welcome you to Kaura. Upon arrival, enjoy one of our signature fresh juices and discuss your activity plans for the day with our Activities Manager. 

09:30 Village - Introductory Walk
Take a stroll through the sub-village of Bakung, one of 14 in Manggis. Meet local personalities and gain some insight into the daily rituals and routines of the people here. See how palm juice is harvested to make the locally-brewed Arak. Hear the story about the organic rice farming initiatives that Discova helped to implement with the Manggis Leaders that underpinned the Kaura concept from the beginning. 

10:00 - Your Chosen Activity

If you are cooking, you will join the women instructors on a foraging trip before you get started. If you are biking, you will be fitted up for your bike size and helmet and will listen to a safety briefing before setting off. If you are hiking to Jangasatru Waterfall, you will set off right from the front door of Kaura and if you are experiencing our wellness program the team will draw you out to our spa and wellness hub. 

12:30-13:00
If you cooked your lunch, you will be enjoying it in good company with your new-found friends. 

If you biked to the beach, you'll be enjoying some authentic food that likely includes a freshly-caught fish in the picturesque setting of Virgin Beach
Waterfall hikers will have returned to Kaura to enjoy lunch by the pool nearby the wellness participants who will be all zen-ed out on Jamu drinks.

Enjoy the pool and the ambiance. Order a coffee, a cool drink and some nibbles. Chat with your newfound friends and our delightful team.
